Untethered EV Charging Cable
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.9/5 on Trustpilot · 1,200+ reviews (as EV Cables — now Wottz)
Built & Tested In UK · Free Delivery (orders over £99) · 2 Year Warranty
Plug-in charging cable with a connector at both ends — for use with home wallboxes and at public chargers. Choose your connector type, current rating, length and colour. Built to order in the UK.
Which cable do I need?
Almost every EV sold in the UK in recent years uses a Type 2 connector. However, some older EVs and a few plug-in hybrids still use a Type 1 connector. If you are unsure what connector your car takes - check it against the registration of your car on our 'Find My Cable' page.
Type 2 to Type 2 - Home (7.4kW)
The right choice for most EV drivers. UK home wallboxes are almost all 7kW, so this cable charges at the fastest speed a standard home supply can deliver. It works at public charge points too - you'll simply charge at up to 7.4kW. If you mainly charge on your driveway and top up in public now and then, this is the one.
Type 2 to Type 2 - Home & Public (22kW)
Same connectors as above, but heavier-duty cable rated to 22kW (three-phase). You'll only see speeds above 7.4kW if both things are true: the charge point supplies three-phase power (found at some public AC chargers, very rare in UK homes) and your car's onboard charger accepts more than 7.4kW AC. When they line up, this cable charges up to three times faster at compatible public points. Best for drivers whose cars support 11kW or 22kW AC charging and who regularly use higher-powered public chargers - or anyone future-proofing for their next car. To check whether your car handles charging up to 22kW search for it in the EV Database.
Type 1 to Type 2 - 7.4kW
Choose this only if your car has a Type 1 charging port - typically older EVs and some plug-in hybrids (such as the earlier Nissan Leaf or Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV). Type 1 cars charge on single-phase only, so 7.4kW is the maximum and there's no faster option to pick. The Type 2 end plugs into your wallbox or public charger; the Type 1 end plugs into your car.
7.4kW or 22kW — which should I choose?
Both cables charge at home and in public. The only difference is the maximum power they can carry.
7.4kW is the right choice for the vast majority of drivers. It's the fastest speed a standard UK home charger delivers, and it's all most cars can accept on AC charging anyway. If you mostly charge at home, choose this.
22kW can carry up to three times the power - but you'll only see that speed if two things are both true: the charge point supplies it (some public AC chargers do; home chargers almost never), and your car's onboard charger accepts more than 7.4kW AC. Plenty of popular EVs cap at 7.4kW or 11kW, so on those a 22kW cable charges no faster - it's heavier and costs more for headroom you can't use.
In short: choose 7.4kW unless you know your car accepts more than 7.4kW AC and you regularly use higher-powered public chargers. If you're buying for a future car or want the extra capacity to be safe, 22kW gives you room to grow.

What Our Customers Say
The quality is leagues ahead of any other charging cable I've used. Lightweight, flexible, and beautifully made. You can tell this was designed by people who actually care about the product.
— James T.
I've tried three different EV cables before finding Wottz. The difference in build quality is immediately obvious. The flex is incredibly light and easy to handle, even in the rain.
— Sarah M.
Ordered a 7.5m cable and it arrived the next day. The carry bag is a nice touch. Everything about this feels premium. From the packaging to the plug design. Won't be going anywhere else.
— Mark H.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this cable compatible with my car?
This Type 2 to Type 2 cable is compatible with the vast majority of electric vehicles sold in the UK and Europe. If your car has a Type 2 charging port, which includes BMW, Mercedes, Audi, VW, Hyundai, Kia, MG, Polestar, Volvo, and many more, this cable will work.
Not sure? Send us your car make and model and we'll confirm within minutes.
What current cable do I need?
32A / 7.4kW is the standard and works with most home wallbox chargers. It delivers the maximum single-phase charging speed.
16A / 3.7kW is suitable if your charger only supports up to 16 amps, or if you want a lighter cable for occasional or portable use.
If in doubt, go with 32A. It's compatible with both 16A and 32A chargers.
How long should my cable be?
5 metres is the most popular choice and works for most driveways where the charger is close to the car.
7.5 to 10 metres gives you extra reach if your charging port is on the opposite side, or if you park further from the wallbox.
We offer lengths from 2m to 50m, so there's always an option that fits your exact setup.
How safe are your cables?
Extremely. Every Wottz cable passes 6 individual tests across 28 test points before it leaves our facility. We developed our own bespoke test station to ensure every cable meets our standards, not just the minimum industry requirement.
Our cables are CE marked, UKCA certified, and built to BS EN 62196 standards.
Will this cable work for Plug-In Hybrid cars (PHEV)?
Yes. If your PHEV has a Type 2 charging port, this cable is fully compatible. Most UK PHEVs from BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Hyundai, Kia, and others use the Type 2 standard.
